Chapter 8

Mike

When I opened my eyes this morning I saw the most beautiful woman watching over me. She smiled and I couldn’t help but smile back. What had this woman done to me? It’s like I’m looking forward just to seeing her. She is so easy to talk to and sometimes I feel like I could spill my soul and she would understand. We talked for hours last night before she had to leave. I had one of the most peaceful sleeps that I have had in years. She eases the pain I have inside. She makes me feel loved. I haven’t felt that since my mom died.

Without Makalya around, days seem to pass by instead of hours. I just don’t understand why it felt like I knew her all my life. I am learning to open up and love.

She smiles at me and I feel my stomach do flip flops. She places her book down and walks over and places a kiss on my forehead.

“Hey sleepy head I thought you would never wake up.”

“Hey baby, I see you’re here early this morning. What time is it?”

Makalya looked at her watch, “It’s a little after 9 am.”

“I’m hungry can you roll that tray over here to me baby. Thank you. Not only are you beautiful but you’re sweet too.”

I said as I lifted the top off of the food and was surprised to find it still hot. “They must have just brought this in here?”

“Yes about 5 minutes before you woke up.”

“I wonder why they were so late bringing it this morning.”

“I told them to take it back and let you sleep. You looked so peaceful and I didn’t want them to wake you.”

“How long have you been here?”

“I don’t really know maybe since 5:30 this morning.”

“5:30 and why didn’t you wake me? Damn baby I’m sorry.”

“What are you sorry for? It isn’t your fault I couldn’t sleep last night.”

“I’m so ready to go home. I’m sick and tired of looking at this place.”

“Mike can I ask you something?”

“Sure baby you can ask me anything.”

“Do you remember what happened to you the night you got shot?”

“Makalya baby what happened that night is between family.”

“So, you do remember?”

“Baby all I need is for you to continue doing what you are doing to make me better. That matter is between me and my brothers.”

She could tell he was serious about what he was saying and she didn’t want to push him. “Ok just understand baby that I’m here to help you.”

“You’re already helping me enough; I don’t know how to thank you or would I ever be able to repay you for all that you have done for me.”

Makalya got quiet after that so I started to eat. After I finished I pushed the tray away I slide back my covers and reached down to ease one of my legs over the side of the bed.

“Just what do you think you’re doing?”

“I’m going to the bathroom what does it look like?”

“It looks like you about to fall flat on your face that’s what.
